This
weekend, Vancouverites will have the unique opportunity to hear
prominent Cuban, Venezuelan and international speakers present on a
diversity of topics within world politics today, including recent
developments in US/Cuba relations and the “sonic attacks.”
Featured speakers include:
> LUIS MORLOTE RIVAS, Cuban Parliamentarian and Vice-President of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC)
> TANIA LÓPEZ LARROQUE, Chief of Mission, Consul General of the Cuban Consulate in Toronto
> WILFREDO J. PEREZ BIANCO, Chief of Mission, Consul General of the Venezuelan Consulate in Vancouver
Now
in its 7th year, the conference has hosted many notable intellectuals,
professors, diplomats, authors and public figures from Cuba, Venezuela,
the United States and across Canada. Past conferences have bought
together hundreds of participants to discuss topics ranging from the
challenges and necessities facing Cuba with the recent transformation of
the Cuban economy, to discussing the relevancy of Che Guevara's ideas
in Cuba and around the world today, and even delving into the
agricultural system in Cuba including their models of sustainable
farming and cooperatives.
“This
unique conference is the only of its kind around the world, bringing
together such a breadth of experiences and perspectives from public
figures and politicians from Cuba such as Luis Morlote Rivas and Tania
Lopez Laroque, as well as prominent intellectuals, professors and
authors from across the US and Canada. With exceptional speakers
presenting a dozen workshops over three days, the conference will be a
chance for participants to discover the ideas that shape Cuba and its
relations with the U.S. and the world,” stated Tamara Hansen,
coordinator of Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC).
